P90X - Day 7 - Kenpo X & Day 8 - Chest & Back

Thanks to some dye work for my Parsons classes...
(Obscuring a corner in my 50s pepto bathroom...), I didn't get to Kenpo X yesterday, so guess what?  Today is a Double's Day - ACK!  ;)  Here goes!  (With some company this am...)
I also want to say "THANKS BACK AT YA" to Lucky Magazine for sending this sweet thank you gift from Alex and Ani yesterday:
The card that came with them says "Proudly made in America from Recycled Materials" www.AlexAndAni.com --> they even remembered (or it was by chance) that I go crazy for this stuff!  Thanks Lucky!  I'm happy to do it!  (My PAGE at Lucky.)

Okay, back to Kenpo X Doubles!

Yours truly,
Alex

Treehouses, Banyan Trees, and Ewok Village Obsession!

(Thanks to Inhabitat!)
Check out Web Urbanist & Finca Bellavista for more amazing treehouse imagery!
(Thanks to Ask.com!)
(Thanks to Dave & Suzanne!)
(Thanks to Ralph McQuarrie!)

I'm destined to attend a Treehouse Workshop in Washington State.  I wish someone would build an Ewok Village (or I'll just go to Finca Bellavista - link at top)...so many amazing treehouses to see and eventually build.  Next house?  I THINK YES!

1st Dye Project Test - Knits

Hahaha - apparently I should A. wear gloves (duh, but I didn't have any!) and B. not use 100% polyester...this is 100% recycled poly from my favorite guys at Style Fabrics (208 W 40th Street)! Crossing my spotted fingers!

P90X - Day 6 - Legs & Back + Ab Ripper X

HI-YA Nomads!  ;)
I thought that since I'm a fashion student/designer (I need to start saying "Designer" with graduation around the corner...) that I should let you see the hilarity that is my workout gear tonight.  Ski socks, skort, and racer-back tank.  How's that for living-room-gym style?  Hahaha!  Well, I've got to go get to work since it's late and it's been a long day, but I wanted to show a close-up too:
Ever since I've been working out, my skin is really clearing up as well - I'm thrilled!!!  (Can't you tell by my huge smile?!)  Thanks Tony Horton!  Double whammy!

Alright, here I come P90X!

Yours truly,
Alex

Crazy patterning at Parsons...

If you can guess what I'm making I will have to pay you $50.00! But I doubt someone can say exactly - haha - what am I doing to myself?!

Guess Who's Going "Consciously" ECO on April 14th?

Wondering yet who this little number is by?  Well, I'm thrilled to tell you that more importantly it is made from organic cotton...but you'd never guess it's from H&M would you?  Their Conscious Collection will hit stores April 14th, 2011 and I have never been more excited to write something fashion related in my calendar.  I hope more and more stores follow their lead.  If these large box stores can change just a portion of their products to sustainable fabrics - it will make a huge impact on the world!  Are you in?
I love their press images and styling - so clean and exciting!  Thanks H&M, I CAN'T WAIT!

Yours truly,
Alex

PS: April 14th - don't forget!  (They're using recycled fibers too, not just organic - even better!)

P90X - Day 4 - Yoga X...almost!

Ciao ciao beautiful people!

(I think these endorphins are really working for me!)  Unfortunately, I only made it half-way through Yoga X this morning before I got unbelievably bored.  But let me be clear, it's a hard workout!  I just have a hard time doing an hour and a half of yoga inside with uninspiring music, by myself.  So I did about 47 minutes and then took out a Denise Austin Dance DVD...even WORSE mistake!  (It only lasted 10 minutes, before I laughed so hard I had to stop the dvd.)  Now I know who the woman in the potato commercial is who says "Always look for the Grown in Idaho seal" that drives me nuts...

I think I may have to actually go to a Yoga class on Mondays.  Something about the group workout has always appealed to me with yoga.  (I also really want to do a weeklong yoga retreat in a beautiful setting, like near a beach!  But I digress.)

My point is that if you are doing P90X or any workout system and you don't like something, you don't HAVE to do it.  You just have to find a strong enough substitute, so that's my next goal.  I still got a workout in, but I feel like I've let Tony down!  And I know he says Yoga is a huge part because of the flexibility, so I think I need to just take a live yoga class.

Happy Do-It-For-You Day!

Yours truly,
Alex

P90X - Day 3

Ciao Nomads!

I didn't quite make it through Ab Ripper X tonight...sorry!  (To me.)  I got through Shoulders + Arms and then laughed my way through the 16 minutes of Abs X - you would have laughed too.  I am still so unbelievably sore from Friday I guess, it was a pathetic try, but a try nonetheless.  I'm getting through P90X this time.  I promise myself.

Besides that, it was a wonderful weekend filled with great friends, delicious food, and ab workouts via laughter - thanks kids, can't wait to do it again!

Happy (grinning) Sunday!

Yours truly,
Alex

P90X Day 2 - Plyometrics

In the art of full disclosure (eeeep!  Here goes!)...this is me after this morning's workout (notice how I'm making it as small as possible - it looks much better this way!):
(Please ignore the bedding and ski gear!)  Thankfully, P90X teaches you how to pose to make your body look pretty bada$$, and admittedly I took this after Plyometrics when I'm feeling much more confident.

I am also lucky that with Parsons I get a workout just carrying my stuff to and from school and sometimes even doing homework, depending on what it is, so my upper-body is in "okay" shape.  But my goal is to truly tone my arms so I look strong and ready to take on the world.  However, it's really my legs and glutes that I'm working on.  Continuing at this rate means I'll finish just before graduation in May.  I'm hoping that by walking myself through the process openly on Gypsy Theories will mean that I'll graduate P90X this time.  (Because I have started it twice before and lasted about two weeks each time.  Blah-blah-blah...)  Let's get me over the hump, nomads!

Happy BeachBody!

Yours truly,
Alex

Under Armour & P90X

Yesterday we made our trip down to the Under Armour headquarters in Maryland.  It was unbelievably amazing!  I wish I could tell you all about it, but you know how it goes...it's a wonder we even got to see what we did.  It was so inspiring that I spent the trip back drawing sketches and writing down inspiration research.  It's going to be one heck of a ride.

Even more fantastic is the fact that I was so inspired to get back in shape (I'm so thankful for muscle memory right now).  I started P90X this morning, so this could get interesting.  Ironically, I will finish the program the same week I graduate from Parsons...a w e s o m e.

I've also just redesigned my entire blog and written goals for 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, and 3 years (I just need to add 5 years and 10 years!).  I have a passion and a mission and I'm going for it.

Remember to ask yourself today: "What did I do better?"  (Thanks Chris Guillebeau!)  Happy Friday!

Yours truly,
Alex

Peter Som Fall/Winter 2011

Hi Nomads!

My week-long internship came to a sad end this afternoon at Peter Som!  I was lucky enough to dress the beautiful Tao Okamoto in the following two looks:
&
(Images courtesy of Style.com -- we weren't allowed to bring our camera's back, sorry guys!)

After looking at these designs up close for the past two weeks, I have fallen in love with Peter Som's designs.  I already told you what a strong, organized, and creative team they have there but the designs are what will keep them going for years and years.  It helps that Peter is a big part of the process and seems like a very kind person, I felt honored to meet him and the rest of the design team.  I've also never been treated so well as an intern in that they were kind and always asked "are you alright?"  Very sweet. That level of optimism and passion shows in the design as well and I LOVED the shoes (way to go Charlotte Olympia & PS!) and the color they brought to each outfit.  The statement fur coats will definitely be a huge hit (especially by some Chanel fans).  The baseball/fur coat is incredible.  The silk shirts that are under a lot of the looks are unbelievably soft and beautiful with crisp detailed structure and the unique sweaters they made are just stunning.  My favorite though?  Definitely the parkas:
And Lydia Carron was such a doll - so sweet but sure of herself.  I really had a blast when she was a fit model last weekend.  This coat was another brilliant design (check out that collar!) and she, of course, wore it best!
Don't you agree?!

Well, I hope you have enjoyed my mini presentation.  I know I'm biased, but I think it's genius.

Happy happy happy day.

Yours truly,
Alex

PS: Big thanks to the super-fast Style.com yet again for their images!

A day of fashion...and as the sun sets...

Always start your day with a beautiful sunrise...I always say!

...now I have that song stuck in my head: "It's a beautiful morning!"

That reminds me, yesterday at Lincoln Center, they were giving out Frappuccino's and it made me remember when a few of my friends and I wrote (and sang )a song on our walk to 8th (what?! when were we that young?!) grade about them. We should totally pitch it to Starbucks. Do you girls remember?!

One last little note. It's my final day interning with the Peter Som team. I've been so impressed with their kindness, extreme organization amidst the chaos that is fashion, and intelligence! Their interns are the same - wonderful! Thanks all, I had a GREAT time. Here we go for a rockin' show!

Happy Friday & NY Fashion Week Day 2!

Yours Truly,
Alex
